Ghost Tours

Ghost Tours around Hobart and Tasmania.

Eport-arthurver been interested in the darker, spookier places you might like to visit when on holiday? Hobart has it’s fair share of stories that deal with ghosts and the paranormal side of Ole Hobart Town.

Ghost Tours are run nightly at Port Arthur where you can hear stories of visitor experiences with ghostly phenomena. Port Arthur also offers a ghost hunting experience.

The Hobart Ghost Tour leaves from the Bakery in Salamanca on a walking tour of the city and explores places where ghosts have been seen, but be aware you will need to book.

In case you want to do some exploring on your own then take some time out to tour the Penitentiary Chapel in Hobart CBD, or the Theatre Royal where it is said that Fred the local ghost saved the theatre from a devastating fire.

Almost every old building has a story of ghostly appearances, the Kodak building in the Elizabeth St mall has stories of a ghost called Beryl who haunts the 3rd floor and has made her presence felt by the employees who work there. If you have some time then take a trip to historic Richmond, at night on the bridge it is said a man can be seen walking across at night before disappearing without a trace.

Because of the violent pasts of some of Hobart’s early residents and also the violent way some of the convicts and bushrangers were treated and died, the city has many fascinating Ghost tours.

A quote from a ghost tour company

‘Allow yourself to be guided in the ghostly footsteps of convicts and bushrangers,
whalers and sailors, barmaids and prostitutes,  cannibals and criminals.
Walk amongst the dead from our legendary past! Leisurely walking tours of  2hrs leave  at dusk from the famous 24hr bakery, “The  Bakehouse” situated in Salamanca Square’.
Our tours are one of a kind offering a very different and intimate experience – our Guides (the Boo Crew) are all very passionate about our Ghosts – you will never be treated like a number, no bored script reading, no two tours are the same!
we encourage our guests to share their experiences and at the end of your tour it is like saying goodbye to newly made friends.
We only visit genuinely haunted sites so cameras, video cameras and other equipment used to record  paranormal activity are ok!
